Dr. Jorge Suarez brings a diverse background in primary care, emergency medicine, and surgical care to his role as a General Practice Veterinarian here at VHA. Born in Cuba, he earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the Agrarian University of Havana in 2010. After moving to the United States in 2015, Dr. Suarez worked as a veterinary technician while completing the requirements for U.S. licensure, which he obtained in 2018. His dedication to the profession and commitment to continual learning have shaped a career focused on providing high-quality care for both pets and the families who love them.
Dr. Suarez’s clinical experience includes nearly a decade practicing primary care medicine with a strong focus on routine and soft tissue surgical procedures before spending six years working as an Emergency and ICU veterinarian from 2019 through 2025. Today, his role combines primary care, urgent care, and surgical procedures, allowing him to care for patients across many stages of illness and recovery. He has a special interest in surgery and continues to expand his knowledge and skills in this area while collaborating closely with our specialists and colleagues across the hospital. In 2025, he became a Certified Canine Rehabilitation Therapist, further strengthening his ability to support patients through recovery and improve long-term outcomes.
Since joining us at VHA, Dr. Suarez has found the most rewarding part of his work to be continually elevating the level of care he can provide to patients. He is grateful for the mentorship and collaboration of his colleagues, especially Dr. Nations and Dr. LeFloch, whose support has helped him continue to grow professionally. What drew him to VHA was our shared commitment to practicing high-standard medicine while approaching every case with compassion, curiosity, and a desire to keep learning.
At home, Dr. Suarez enjoys life with his wife Norma, their son and daughter, and their Labradoodle, Sophia. Outside of the hospital, he enjoys fishing, traveling, learning about different cultures, and spending time with his family. He also has a creative side and enjoys playing both the piano and guitar.
Dr. Suarez values the collaborative environment here at VHA and the support of his fellow doctors when working through challenging cases. For him, veterinary medicine is not only about solving medical problems but about growing alongside a team that truly cares about patients, families, and each other.
