Amanda Ramirez CVT, Overnight ER/ICU Supervisor

Amanda has had a lifelong passion for caring for animals, a calling that began when she was just nine years old. With a natural nurturing instinct and a fascination for science and medicine, she always knew her path would involve helping others, both animals and people. Before entering veterinary medicine, Amanda worked with special needs children, gaining valuable behavioral training and compassion skills that would later shape her approach in veterinary care. Ultimately, she decided to pursue her certification in veterinary technology and follow her heart into the field.

Amanda’s journey at Veterinary Healthcare Associates began as an ICU Assistant, where her dedication, curiosity, and willingness to learn quickly set her apart. Over the years, she has worked in nearly every department within the hospital, gaining invaluable hands-on experience and a deep understanding of every facet of patient care. Today, as the Overnight ER/ICU Supervisor, she continues to lead with empathy, teamwork, and a commitment to growth. “VHA is the perfect place to start out,” she shares. “There are so many opportunities to learn and grow. I was able to start as an ICU assistant and, with the support of those around me, work my way to a leadership role.”

The most rewarding part of her career has been helping both people and pets through their most difficult moments, whether it is comforting a family during an emergency or providing round-the-clock care for a patient in the ICU. Building strong connections with her coworkers and guiding her team through those moments of compassion and excellence fuels her every day.

Amanda’s journey with VHA began years before she ever wore the badge. While bringing her own dog to Dr. Nations for chemotherapy, she was deeply moved by the care, empathy, and professionalism she witnessed from the team. “The doctor and nurses made such a lasting impression on me. I even became friends with them,” she recalls. “That experience inspired me to apply and become part of the VHA family.”

At home, Amanda is surrounded by her own pack: Leonidas, a Pitbull/Curr mix; Josie and Cannoli, both Boston Terriers; and Lulu, a French Bulldog. When she is not at work, she enjoys spending quality time with her family, watching sports, and exploring new parks with her kids.

To maintain balance in a demanding field, Amanda practices mindfulness and takes time to appreciate life outside of work. “VHA offers so many resources that support work-life balance,” she shares. “It makes a huge difference knowing that you are supported not just as an employee, but as a person.”
