Jamesyn Horton ER/ICU Supervisor and Neurology Technician

Jamesyn Horton, CVA, serves as an ER/ICU Supervisor and Neurology Technician here at VHA, where his passion for animal care and curiosity for medicine come together in a fast-paced and collaborative environment. His journey into veterinary medicine began during the height of the COVID pandemic, when his love for animals and exotic pets inspired him to turn a personal passion into a meaningful career. At one point, Jamesyn cared for an incredible 22 animals, many of them reptiles, which sparked his interest in pursuing veterinary medicine and learning more about how to care for animals at a deeper level.

Since joining VHA, Jamesyn has discovered a workplace unlike any other he has experienced. Having worked in a number of veterinary hospitals, he describes VHA as a “unicorn place” where team members are genuinely excited to be here and committed to helping each other grow both personally and professionally. The collaborative culture and high standard of medicine practiced across departments are what inspired him to build his career here.

One of the most rewarding aspects of his role has been the opportunity to work across multiple departments throughout the hospital. This experience has helped him become a more well-rounded technician and has allowed him to develop a special interest in neurology cases. Supporting patients with complex neurological conditions and being part of the team that helps guide them through diagnosis and treatment continues to reinforce why he chose this field.

Outside of work, Jamesyn shares his home with Dior, his three-legged French Bulldog, and three cats named Milo, Rowena, and Yam. When he is not caring for patients, he enjoys baking and building Lego sets, hobbies that give him a creative outlet and time to recharge.

Working in ER and ICU can be emotionally demanding, and Jamesyn believes it is important to take time to reflect after a long day, especially when caring for critically ill patients. The supportive environment here at VHA helps make those challenging moments easier, with a team that understands the emotional side of the profession and supports one another through it.
